Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has two universities, in Rostock and Greifswald. There are universities of applied sciences in Wismar, Neubrandenburg and Stralsund, the Rostock University of Music and Theatre, and a college for public administration, police and judicial services in Güstrow.
All institutions based in the state are public. Hochschule Wismar also offers distance programmes. Of the programmes where admission is known, 79% have open admission.
At public institutions you usually pay no tuition for a first degree, only a semester contribution. Details come from the institutions' own websites, and the institution's page is authoritative.
