The use of biomass-based energy sources traditionally plays a very important role in Eastern Europe t. In northwestern Russia, the focus of attention naturally is in the area of forest biomass. The workshop in St. Petersburg in particular, is to bring together scientists who are on the German and Russian side concerned with the goals of sustainability-oriented deployment and utilization of forest biomass.
